The new series Trailer marks a startling but logical development in the oeuvre of Scheltens & Abbenes; from autonomously orchestrated stages in the studio, to documentation strictly on site. It is the endless fascination for flower still-lifes that guided them to the loading and unloading docks of the big flower companies. By going beyond the readability of the widespread decor paintings on the transport trucks, they have derived a new abstract beauty from these handmade forms of decorative painting. Just like the sensational serie Cut-outs (2003-2008), the subtle view on detail level again provides for a surprising revelation of its underlaying constructions. From set staging in a studio to appropriating footage in the outdoors; by keenly cropping imagery from the world of advertisement, Scheltens & Abbenes offer a contemporary variant on Pop Art.
