The concept of universality in the age of globalisation is a constant theme in their works.
Phunk Studio is a Singapore-based contemporary art-and-design collective formed by four Singaporean artists/designers: Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan and William Chan. It began life in 1994 when its members were all design studients at LaSalle College of the Arts. Their visual signature blends and re-interprets their diverse influences, such as traditional Chinese mythology, craft and folklore, Hong Kong wuxia, Japanese manga and otaku sub-culture, Western popular culture, art and design movements, into a singular creative approach that reflects their multi-cultural identity, background and environment.
