Ana Serrano is a Los Angeles-based artist whose hand-made urbanscapes have received acclaim in recent shows in California, Texas, Tennessee, and Idaho. Using simple materials like cardboard, glue and paint, Serrano creates miniature neighborhoods that reference Los Angeles’ colorful, eclectic street life. The artist is drawn to vernacular elements such as barbed wire fencing and DIY exterior signage that lend authenticity as well as playfulness to her environmental compositions. Her work enhances our appreciation of the complexities of city life by asserting aesthetic impressions and socio-economic realities.
