O-KAMA: A Visual Dictionary is an aesthetic commentary on LGBTQ stereotypes in a uniquely Japanese way. Using 24 male models cast via social media, London based designer and illustrator Daniel Nolan has created a magazine of kinky illustrations depicting Japanese gay slang terms. “O-kama” is a Japanese informal word used to refer to an effeminate gay man.

Daniel Nolan is a designer and illustrator based in London who’s a self proclaimed Japanophile. With a background in both graphic and interior design, Nolan’s disinctive style is undoubtedly influenced both by Japan’s cute culture and minimalism at the same time. O-KAMA has been his exploration of themes of vanity, cuteness and stereotyping.
